Artist's Statement: |
| | "Watercolour seduces my spirit as its pigment saturates the paper. Colour, design and a touch of whimsy all play a part in my work. I invite you to delight in the interaction of elemental shapes weaving their own unique rhythm." |

Biography: |
| | A watercolour artist who makes paradoxical use of this fluid medium by creating hard edged works of saturated pigment, Prudence Smith delights in the elements of colour and design brushed by a touch of whimsy. Her work continues to display a fascination for floral arrangements and other still life objects evoking the richly intense mosaic quaility of stained glass. Since becoming a grandmother Prudence has added a series of whimsical creatures to her inventory.
Following a BA at the University of Toronto, Prue obtained a Diploma in Child Study leading her to the Child Life Department of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children The serendipity of a summer art course rekindled a childhood fascination with paint and paper. Although subsequent watercolour courses further unlocked her creative spirit, her unique style has primarily evolved along a path of self discovery. She has been in serious pursuit of this journey for over 20 years.
Prudence has exhibited in both solo and group shows in and around central Ontario. Her warm and lively paintings are in both private and corporate collections in Canada, France, Japan, the UK and USA. In addition to original work, many images are available in card stock. Prue welcomes contact at her in-home studio in Orillia. |
